Let me start with saying that I am blessed to be able to do this at my age. What is "this" you ask, well I am enrolled in a four year college at the age of 47. No one in my family has ever graduated from a four year college, and here I am in my sophomore year. I have attended a two year college before and I have an AAS in mechanical drafting. You see, my creativeness comes from when in grade school and I had art. I loved everything about it, so much that it continued to my high school years. In high school I had a class of interior design as an elective. I fell in love. I immediately started looking at colleges to go to a school where I could do that. Money was an issue then, and I also became pregnant with my first son at the age of 19. This hindered my journey. At the time I took the closest route that I could, which was the two year mechanical drafting.
Fast forward my life by a total of 3 kids, 3 marriages and a job as a CNA II that led to disability, and you have landed at where I am at right now. Sitting at home one day I seen an add for a college about interior design online. I got to thinking that I could take it from home, so I looked into it. As I did so, I realized it was gonna cost me a whole lot to go to these specific ones because they were out of my state. That is when I decided to look into my home state and seen the program I am currently in. I am over joyed to be here completing my dream that I have had for so very long. I know being disabled for as long as I have may not allow me to work again, but I will look it as a check mark off of my bucket list. However, if there is that one little chance that I get to design in the workforce again, I know the route I want to take. I want to be able to design for disabled people and help them out. It is a passion that would come from the heart. Being that I would know exactly the challenges they face, I would love to bring solutions to their lives or communities and facilities. It would make my life complete.
